Verify Your Small Business Idea

You have an idea that you think will make you a million, now what do you do? Ideas are only the first step in deciding whether it will make you money. Your idea may be great to you but it may not be great to anyone else. How do you verify if your idea will sell, follow the 7 steps below.
1. Describe your idea simply and clearly. Include its purpose, size, use and any other needed description
2. Search the internet for any other companies that may sell similar products. Familiarize yourself with function, and assess strengths and weaknesses. How is this product the same and different from your idea - call the company and ask for information on the product if possible - compare and revise your idea if needed
3. Describe the buyer of your idea (product or service), your customer -describe the buyer, get detailed- salary, single, married, income level, kids, pets -include age, length of time in the area
4. Find your customer/buyer geographically -where do they live, where do they buy, what do they read -go to the census bureau to locate
5. Put a questionnaire together about your product or service -go to the geographical area when the people are home such as early evening or weekends -go to the shopping areas when your potential customers are there and ASK your questions
6. Re-evaluate your idea based upon the input of the actual customers. They will tell you if they would buy what you are selling.
7. Re-due the process until your idea is fine-tuned and something someone would buy.
