Networking in 5 Easy Steps

Networking is one of the easiest and most important way by which you can build your clientele. If you are a woman in small business or large; having a good networking list and taking care of your network will help you in decide what to do next. If you already have goals in mind, your network can help you achieve those goals.
Great networking skills are mandatory for every woman entrepreneur and they must be able to do it well. Networking can be divided into five simple steps, when followed can have positive results.
Step 1: Have the proper mindset
Even if you do not need clientele or contacts currently, find them, nurture them, and keep them. You never know when your network may come in handy. Networking is a long process and one which is everlasting. Do not leave networking if you are employed; continue it. Who knows, someone may have an idea or offer you an opportunity that could take in you a whole new direction in life. Always spend the time to maintain relationships with people you like, who encourage you, who work in areas you find interesting and who you can learn from. In order to maintain and build a successful relationship, don't underestimate the time it will take. Ensure you put in the time as a priority.
Step 2: Have sharp skills
Networking is a gateway. By having a strong network and by working at building and maintaining it, you can be provided with better opportunities. To be able to meet new people and get acquainted, you need to be able to tell them in a few words what type of a person you are, what you do for a living and what you plan on achieving in the future. Remember, you must be able to convey this information within minutes; no one likes listening to someone else talk about herself continuously. Another important part in this stage of networking, is to find out what you can do to help them - ideally do this before asking for their help immediately.
Step 3: Give value
When you are in the process of networking, both people should be able to benefit each other mutually. Don't be concerned if the people you are speaking with is not matched to your business. Enjoy the time you spend meeting them and see if you can introduce them to someone more appropriate to their business. Networking is not about handing out business cards to everyone. It's about being selective with who you spend the majority of time with by asking questions to get to know them better. If they aren't a match - move on.
Step 4: Have a follow up
Once you have made a contact, make it a point to keep in touch. This is an extremely important step - remember the quote 'out of sight out of mind'. If the connection is important to you, you are the one who needs to make it happen
Step 5: Influence your connections
This is considered one of the best ways of building a relationship. Send them a 'nice to meet you' email and perhaps news clipping every now about something they are interested in. It needs to be something of value 'to them'.

You Get the Most Benefit From Your Networking Efforts

Have you ever been to a networking meeting, or a live event, where you've learned plenty, and rubbed shoulders with lots of potential ideal clients, or even joint venture partners? Then with the promises of 'let's set something up' still ringing in your ears, you get home, and it's all forgotten!
You may have heard that old adage "The Fortune's in the follow-up" and it's TRUE!
Yet despite your best intentions you never quite get round to it, and when you DO remember to do something about it (usually when you re-discover those dog-eared business cards at the bottom of your bag, along with the half eaten packet of mints) it doesn't feel quite right to follow-up. The moment has passed, and the afterglow has long since evaporated.
As with most business mistakes and overlooked opportunities, the reasons for this are A) because you don't recognize the importance of what you've overlooked, and B) you don't have a system in place to maximize those opportunities.
And timing is everything with this particular opportunity.
Why wait 37 days to follow-up with someone you've met, when you could do it within a couple of days?
Do you think that after all those weeks the people you met are going to remember you, and what you talked about with them at the meeting? Well maybe, but often, NO they won't, because they themselves will have been sucked back into the day to day details of their business, and frankly you will no longer be top of mind for them.
These days we are bombarded with information and opportunities every day. So why not be the one that DOES catch their attention, by doing what you said you'd do, and actually following up with the Free report, or referral, or resource, or idea which you chatted about?
Be the person with integrity, to set you apart, by doing what you said you were going to do!
Here are 7 simple strategies to make it easy, and systematize it.
1.When you schedule time to attend an event, always schedule additional time for your follow-up within 2 days after the event. If you don't schedule it, it probably won't happen.
2. Be meticulous in your note-taking at the event.Jot down who you spoke to, briefly what you talked about, and also what you promised to do for them, as well as any other good 'connector' information.
3. When you follow-up with them, remind them that you chatted at the event this weekend, and how nice it was to meet them and learn about their business (for example), and here's the report / referral / information as promised. You're subtly reminding the recipient that they had agreed for you to contact them.
4. Be focused on adding value- although you've met in person, this is still a 'young' relationship, so don't make the mistake of shoving a hard sell into their face.
If you think the person could be a good fit for you, either as a possible client, or as a potential business joint venture partner, think of how you can help them first - with ideas, resources or connections. This will help to cement their trust in you, and show that you aren't just after what they can do for YOU!
You might offer
  • A Free report
  • A copy of a relevant article you've written
  • A couple of referral ideas
  • Some details of a resource you know could help them (not necessarily yours)
5. Make it easy for your follow-up recipient to agree to let you follow up again, by suggesting something further that could add value for them.
You could suggest a follow-up coffee meeting, or skype call to chat through further ways you could be of use to one another, or recommend some helpful resources they might like which are coming up in your newsletter if they'd like to be on the subscribers' list.
6. Get out of your own way! Another reason why people often don't follow up is the FEAR factor. Having left the event, they start to get doubts, telling them all the reasons why their follow-up won't be welcome. They might think it would be too pushy, or that they didn't come across as well as some of the other attendees at the event, for example.
The beauty of following up to add value is that it shows you aren't just 'after the sale', and that you are genuinely interested in finding out more about the person you're following up with, in order to be helpful. Most people are much more receptive to this type of follow-up.!
7. Realise that networking and connecting with people face to face is a HUGE benefit to your business, so get out of your comfort zone, and armed with your new system to maximize the afterglow with your value focused follow-up, GET CONNECTING!
Look at how you can schedule these 7 strategies into your networking, as part of your marketing plan, and you'll be surprised at how much better your networking results become, leading to better alliances, and more clients.

Conference Calls a Time Saver and Business Server

In the hustle bustle world of business commerce, conference calls are an essential part of the daily business communications. Businesses large and small need to be able to link up with customers and satellite company branch offices to deliver on time news and business briefs. Hooking up with a conference call makes all things possible. Quick decisions to last-minute changes you need a business server that serves your business well.
Conference calls allow all the key players in any business structure to communicate efficiently and conduct business as it should be, accurately and concise. Although there is a wide range in the needs of frequency of calls required by each business, you can get a custom designed call program made to order for as your business server.
Depending on your individual business needs, linking calls make any business run so much smoother and that is what we all long to see happen. Business is only successful when it comes together as it was designed to do. Each detail in your business needs to operate in a forward movement that allows you to reach that type of successful end. Conference communication allows just that to happen.
When deciding on the right fit for your business server, choose a calling plan that delivers on your specific intervals of use. If your business makes daily, weekly, monthly or spontaneous conference calls, whatever you do, order according to your schedule of use, in order to pay for only the time you need.
Should you have international needs for conference calls, there are plans design to accommodate those type of hook ups, but if all your calls are inside the U.S or your native country, then by all means order only national conference calling.
Especially in today's incredibly crazy business world, making the best choices, not only in linking calls, but in all things business, you must make wise decision in timely fashion, in order to be the best business server you can be. Take time to do it right the first time, and you will exceed far beyond the normal business models.

You Must Be Able to Explain What You Do in 30 Seconds

An elevator speech is a marketing tool and an important one at that. However let's address a common misconception, namely: "An Elevator Speech is a waste of time because there is no way you can develop a relationship, or explain a complex business in 30 seconds". I have even heard people suggest elevator speeches should be "banned" at network meetings.
Now, it matters not what you call your introduction, but you CAN and you MUST be able to articulate your business in 30 seconds. In fact you need to be able to to it in 10 seconds.
Here's why:
  • You need to get attention - you have 10 seconds to do that. If you fail, attention wanders and you are far less likely to get into a meaningful conversation
Now, of course you are not trying to develop a relationship in 30 seconds. Equally you are NOT trying to explain what you do in that time frame. Forget any notions you may have had that those are key goals of an elevator speech - they are not.
Think about the reaction you want when you introduce your business (or yourself for that matter). A great reaction is no more or less than: "That sounds interesting, I'd like to hear more about that". NOW you are into a dialogue that allows you to start building the relationship, networking, finding referral partners, seeing if there is a hiring relationship to be had and so on.
This is a huge difference. Many of the complaints about elevator speeches stem from the fact that people are trying to explain or sell during their 30 seconds. You don't need to - that is not the point of an elevator pitch.
HOW to do this is a separate article but basically it boils down to articulating WHO is your ideal client and WHAT challenges are they dealing with that you are set up to solve. When you get that right, you will get that great reaction to your introduction.

Why Networking Fundamentals Are Your Route to Fun and Profit

If you are like me, you don't like to work real hard and get nothing in return. Yet at the same time, you know instinctively that doing the least amount will yield the smallest reward. I discovered that the phrase "least effort most gained" is actually an oxymoron long ago. However, I also discover that if I wanted to network smarter not harder, I had to concentrate on doing very specific behaviors that produce result. Other wise I would find myself doing things right but not doing the right things.
In this article, I will teach you the most important things to concentrate when networking. I am talking about fundamental behaviors that will product the most consistent results from your networking efforts day in and out. By engaging in these fundamental behaviors, you will produce the closet thing to "least effort most gained" and you will be making more money from referrals than ever before.
The first thing you need to create a details plan with measurable results and obtainable goal. For me, I make sure I start each year by setting aside some time to create my "word of mouth marketing plan. This plan will be set up with either quarterly or monthly campaigns and each period will have focused topic, with a focused message looking for a focused type of referral or business. I always make sure that I create smart goals and that I know what behaviors are needed to reach each goal. SMART is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely goals. If your goals are not designed using SMART criteria you will probably not reach your goals.
Second, I use the calendar to create my word of mouth campaigns. I typically chose my subject by month, corporate dictate or calendar event, (like holidays). I make sure I have a focused subject for each period of my calendar. My subject starts with the question; "What kind of referral am I looking for this month?" Once I know what my focused subject are and what kind of referral I want, I sit down and create a very brief outline of my 60-second presentations for that month. It not very detailed but it does contain the theme for the campaign, specific referral I looking for, the number of presentation planned, number of referral desired and a sales amount. Once I create the first campaign, I move on to the next period/campaign etc.
Third, I make sure I am in a position to meet with my referral partners on a regular basis. I make it part of my word of mouth campaign to meet with a couple of partners every week. I put these meetings on my calendar and I make sure I contact my partners well in advance to setup their appointments. These meeting are crucial to your leveraging your message. Your referral partners can and will go out and bring you referrals if you have a clear, focus and empowering message. It also assumes you are reciprocating and that you are bringing value to your partnership. Remember the law of reciprocity. Your referral partners will probably stop bringing your referral if you forget to take care of them.
Forth, I make sure I have all my networking tools in place. I create and practice my 60-second presentations. If I am scheduled to deliver 10-minute presentations or seminars, I create and practice them. When attending events, I make sure I have a list of specific prospects and referral partners that I want to meet. I always carry my business cards, my business card holder, (which has my partner's business cards). I always bring a pen, a note pad and a positive attitude to all events. I always look to help my referral partners at these events by getting them referral. Doing this for them helps them to keep an eye out for my needs. This always works for me. Try it, I bet it will work for you too.
The fifth fundamental is to track your results and to make sure you are accountable to performing the behaviors that produce the result. Here I recommend creating a spreadsheet or log where you record the events, the dates, people you met, why you met, what your focused message was and the out come of each meeting was. At the end of each month, look at your total number of appointments, the number of face-to-face meeting you engaged in and what was your conversion rate. These three numbers will tell you a lot about how effective your efforts are. If any of your numbers are low, make sure you are being honest about the first four fundamentals.
The last fundamental to engage in is accountability. You need to make sure you are performing the right behaviors not just doing right. The best way to do this is to find an accountability partner who you will meet with at least once a month and to go your results. You may even be able to do this for each other. Either way being accountable to performing the needed behaviors and tracking your results is the only way you will succeed unless you are extremely lucky or heavenly blessed.
By creating a detailed plan that contains smart goals, scheduling meeting time with your referral partners, strategically choosing events to attend, taking time to practice and prepare, tracking your results and meeting with an accountability partner, you will be poised for success. Follow these fundamental and you will achieve the closest thing to least effort most gained. You will not only have spent your time wisely but you will also be handsomely rewarded for your efforts.
That my opinion, what yours.

Minding Your Networking P's and Q's

Now days, with the economy is struggling to rebound, and people often ask me; "What can I do to stand out from the crowd. How can I make sure potential customers are paying attention to me and my message?" My answer to that question is mind you're networking P's and Q's and you will stand out as a winner. What do I mean by your networking P' and Q's you ask?. My answer is simple and as you read, you will learn specific behaviors that make you stand out and attract business, while avoiding behaviors that cause you to stumble and scare customers away.
First, let me start by covering what I call the five P's of networking. These are being Positive, Proactive, Prepared, Purposeful, and Pleasing. First, let us look at Positive. I have heard many of the top professional of the networking world say that being positive is the number one thing you need to start on the right path to success. I have also heard it said that it is also second, third and fourth... you get the idea. Your attitude permeates everything you do. Make sure you are positive because being positive will attract people to you and many of them will be potential customers.
Now let us discuss what being Proactive means. A proactive networker does not wait for referrals to come to them; they go after that business directly. They attend many networking events; take the time to meet, set appointments, and learn about other networker. They take the time to educate their referral partners on their businesses. Proactive people get things done. By being proactive you can builds your credibility with your fellow networkers and strategic referral partners. Being proactive will allow you to deliver your positive focused messages and as such, it will help you get more referrals.
Being prepared goes along with being proactive. Here I am talking about practicing your presentations, (both 60-second and 10-minute presentations) before events. Making sure, you have a plan and a list of those businesses you want to be introduced while attending these events.
Purposeful also goes hand in hand with proactive and prepared. You can only be purposeful if you have taken the time to be proactive and prepare. Your focus is only as good as your preparation. Being Purposeful mean knowing in your gut exactly why you're at that networking event. It means you know who you are looking. You will know because you have put in the time and effort to get ready for that event.
The last of my P's is Pleasing. Here I am referring to the fact that by being positive, proactive, prepared and purposeful you will automatically be more pleasing. One reason is because the first four P's help build your credibility. In addition, the first four P's allow you to relax and not be anxious (because you know exactly what you have to do). You will be able to enjoy the event more. You will be more successful achieving your goals and success lead to having fun. When your having fun you will be more pleasing to other and it will perpetuate being more successful. Focusing on the five P's generates success.
Now lets contrast the negative aspect of what I am calling my networking Q's with the positive P's I just covered.
My first Q is Quiet. I often see people at networking events huddle away in some corner acting as if they are in a "time out". This will never get you any business. This also goes for people spending most of their networking time eating and drinking instead of meeting and mixing with the other attendees. Being quit is only important when you are actively listing, other wise it will not gain you a thing. When it time to give your 60-second presentation, saying nothing is bad. The only thing worse than saying nothing is say things poorly. Neither of these traits will instill confidence in your services and they definitely will not build your credibility.
Quiescent is my next Q word. Quiescent goes hand in hand with quiet. Quiescent is defined as; "marked by inactivity or repose." Going to a networking event and doing nothing but standing around is just wasting time. I have had people tell me that they just wanted to get out of the office early and this was an excuse to do just that. Obviously being inactive at an event that requires proactive behavior insures your failure and cost you the price of admission.
My next negative Q is Quibble. Many times at networking events, I see participants quibbling over unrelated happening, which have nothing to do with their business, profession or market in general. They in essence are being social. Although all networking events have a somewhat of social flavor to them, that is not their purpose. Networking events are marketing events not social meetings. When you see people quibbling over who has the best football teams or where the biggest fish are, think to yourself. Am I here to quibble socially or make business contact and get referrals?
Now let's talk about Quarrel, our next negative Q word. Some time I see people quarreling at these events. It definitely hurts' your ability to connect and build credibility if you argue with people. This is true even if you do it only occasionally. Arguing with people about politics, religion or even business is negative in nature. The best thing you can do is excuse yourself from any conversation that turns negative or argumentative and move to where there are positive people at the event. You can't be positive if you're quarreling. Remember negative repels and positive attracts.
My last negative Q word is Quit. Many time people just quit networking because they think, they don't have the skills or it too hard or that it just doesn't work. All of these reasons to quit are just negative though move into that person reality because that person is operating from a negative "Q" mentality instead of a positive "P" mentality.
If you follow my positive networking, P's and avoid my negative networking Q's as outlined in this article you will make more contacts, create more referral partners and get more business then you ever have before. Mind you're networking P and Q and reap the rewards at your next networking event.
That's my opinion, what's your.

Is The World Going To End In 2012

An ancient civilization called The Maya were very advanced when it came to the study of time. They kept several very accurate calendars, including one called The Long Count which began over 5000 years ago and ends on December 21st 2012. Now just because their calendar ends on that date, doesn't actually mean that the world is going to end in 2012, but interestingly The Mayans are not the only indicators of 2012 being a pivotal year for human civilization.
The Incas, The Hopi, The Aztecs and The Zulu's amongst others, all point to this timeframe, and specifically 2012, as being an 'end of an age'. Also, many psychics and remote viewers also believe that we are at a crucial crossroads in human evolution - indeed some remote viewers say that they cannot 'see' past 2012, almost as if they hit a brick wall!
There are others who believe that rather than the world ending in 2012, human beings will evolve into a much more advanced, spiritual race and that true reality itself will be revealed and that the mystery of time will also be unlocked. They believe we will all wake up to the knowledge that we are spiritual beings having a physical experience on Earth, and that what we call dying is nothing more than waking up after a night-time of sleep and dreams. I rather like the sound of this theory!
The film 2012, mixed a little bit of truth and a lot of spectacular nonsense, and brought the idea of the Mayan Calendar and 2012 into the mainstream. NASA too has mentioned that they expect major sun storm activity to peak in 2012, causing possible electro-magnetic interference on Earth which could have devastating consequences to the electric grid and throw Western civilization back a few centuries.
Interestingly, the Sun was worshiped by all ancient civilizations including the Maya, so perhaps we should be prepared for a solar event?
2012 will probably come and go just like any other year. The facts are though, that there are many indications pointing to 2012 as being a very significant year for all of us here on Earth. Whether this means the world is going to end in 2012, or that we as a species advance to a more spiritual existence, is a subject of immense speculation and interest. Me? I'll keep an open mind and will continue to watch events unfold as we head ever nearer that key date.

A Brutally Honest Review of The Hurt Locker

The Hurt Locker won Oscars in 2010 for Best Picture, Director, Screenplay, Editing, Sound, and Sound Editing - and was nominated for Best Cinematography, Music, and Best Actor (Jeremy Renner).
This is a film that's very much worth seeing. But it is not a perfect film, and at first viewing I was actually underwhelmed. It was only when I saw it again that I saw a deeper and richer level beyond the obvious.
On first glance this is an exciting, enthralling, and seemingly very realistic film about a US Army bomb disposal unit in Iraq whose death-defying job is to disarm Improvised Explosive Devices.
Sergeant First Class Will James, Sergeant J.T. Sanborn and Specialist Owen Eldridge are the Bravo Company's bomb disposal unit. James is the new leader replacing a long-standing and respected team member who was killed disarming a bomb. When James takes over, Bravo Company has only thirty-nine days left in its current deployment.
But those thirty-nine days turn out to be very long and extremely dangerous. James is not afraid of danger and will walk into the face of it, terrifying Sanborn and Eldridge and probably causing Eldridge to be severely wounded.
It seems at first that James is an adrenaline junkie, willing to endanger himself and others for the thrill of facing death in the face and staring it down.
But on watching it again, I saw the true nature of James' commitment. He is, in fact, completely committed to his Mission (with a capital "M"). While he is in the severest danger, he is not concerned about safety because he can feel that he is protected by his righteous action.
Pay close attention to the scene where he stops the suspicious Iraqi taxicab with his pistol for a stunning demonstration of "righteous courage."

World Cinema - Sin City (2005)

Director - Robert Rodriguez, Frank Miller, Quentin Tarintino
It is a film noir based on Frank Miller's graphic novel series by the same name.
After the third RoboCop film bombed at the box office Miller was adamant about letting anyone direct a movie based on his stories without his assistance, fearing a similar result.
So Rodriguez eager to direct it filmed a test scene which later became the opening scene as well.He even gave credit to others directors for direction.
Movie shows three of Miller's Sin City adaptations:
  • The Hard Goodbye: About an ugly brute(Mickey Rourke) out to avenge death of his one night stand love.
  • The Big Fat Kill: Which focuses on a street war and treaty between a group of prostitutes and police.
  • That Yellow Bastard: Shows Bruce Willis as an aging police officer who protects a young woman Nancy Callaghan from a pedophile, serial killer(Nick Stahl) and later saves adult Nancy(Alba)from Yellow Bastard.
  • The movie stars Bruce Willis, Alexis Bledel, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Clive Owen, Michael Clarke Duncan, Rosario Dawson, Benicio del Toro, Michael Madsen, Nick Stahl, Powers Boothe, Josh Hartnett, Jaime King, Brittany Murphy, Elijah Wood and Rutger Hauer.
Cinematography is classy, unique and retains the dark look of the original novel. Most of the film is in black and white with coloring for select objects.Film was digitally treated for heightened contrast so as to more clearly separate blacks and whites (as is the case in film noir tradition). This was done not only to give a more film noir look, but also to make it appear more like the original comic.
A genius movie with an awesomely huge star cast-A rare combination. Good thing that writer was also director here. That is the reason every fictional character can be felt-in so deep by viewers.
Especially Marv (Mickey Rourke) as a bit insane but morally sound brute on payroll and medication under drop dead gorgeous lesbian payroll officer Lucille(Carla Gugino).
Kudos to other directors Robert Rodriguez and master Tarantino for getting the hang of the graphic novel so artistically well.
Tarantino was "Special Guest Director" for directing the car sequence between Clive Owen and Benicio del Toro.

It seems that whether you are a follower of World War 2 drama or not, you will be very hard pushed not to become totally immersed in the storylines and with the characters involved such is the power of the imagery that unfolds. It has been said on more than one occasion that some scenes stay with you for a long time afterwards.

Have You Ever Considered How American Songs Got Popular

The music we listen to in America is generally unique, creative and different than the music created by the top pop bands of other nations, and yet so often our music makes it into their realm and theirs into ours. Many famous bands have crossed overseas to sell millions of records, tapes, CDs in lands afar.
Today we can listen to music of the 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and present on XM Radio of Sirius Satellite Radio anytime we wish to. All of them, even the oldies are familiar to us and in their day were huge hits. I often, listen to the 80s music, as that was the music I grew up to, others listen to 70s as they grew up in that era and listened to that music.
Still, although the music is different through the ages, the passion remains the same. These artists grew up in different generations and were a product of their time, and their music reflects that. Just because you may not like the old stuff, does not mean in their day they were any less popular. I think all folks should listen to the music of other periods and reflect on some of these thoughts.

Dante University Press Publishes Bravo! Greatness of Italian Music

Historian Guy Graybill undoubtedly loves music as well as history. So if you are a fan of either, I am certain you will want to consider his latest book, Bravo! Greatness of Italian Music, published by the Dante University Press.
I must say immediately that I very much enjoyed this writer's brilliant presentation of what many will see as a major historical text with indepth, well-documented information on his chosen topic. This is very true! But there were subtle small touches that added to my personal delight, such as:
· His use of Acts rather than the common "chapter" to separate his material.
· His choice of highlighting both Sinatra and Pavarotti on the cover to show the breadth of his content.
· His inclusion of small asides of personal opinion and/or tidbits of humor that normally would never appear in a significant research effort; for instance his personal comment about ballet: "What perversity resides within the masculine soul that drives men to create ways to physically hobble females?" (p. 144)
· And, finally, the inclusion of many historical pictures as well as many beautiful hand-drawn portraits from the Dante University Press.
Do not doubt that this book will become a major reference for students of music!
The back cover states, "The Italians were so busy creating and performing superb music that they neglected to tell the great epic story of their wondrous achievement." Indeed, the author has "demonstrated...the Italian contribution to music is overwhelmingly superior." (p. 234) His Curtain on that same page provides 14 areas of music in which Italians excel! Obviously, creation of fine instruments, operas, and symphonies are just a few.
Let me illustrate by just highlighting names that many of you will readily recognize: Gregory who composed the Gregorian chants; Stradivari, makers of stringed instruments; Paganini; Monteverdi, opera's first genius; Verdi; Caruso; Pavarotti; and, one of my favorites, Andrea Bocelli, who is involved in both opera and more modern music and even has his singing in a commercial--how cool is that!
If you don't recognize those involved with classical music, how about: Anna Maria Alberghetti, Mario Lanza, Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, Jim Croce, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Frankie Lane, Jerry Vale, Sonny Bono, Jerry Colonna, Perry Como, Tony Bennett, and, of course, Frank Sinatra.
Just imagine! I've highlighted only those individuals whose name you will probably recognize. I believe you will realize that this book is well beyond a students' text! Anybody who is interested in music will find the personal stories and biographical information on these individuals fascinating!
From Italians and Italian-Americans, there has been "more music lost" than has been created by others! That's a powerful statement, isn't it? Graybill has the statistics--the numbers, to back this up if that will interest you. I think anybody who stops to think about the great music they've come to love, they will realize the impact that Italy's musical genius has made on all of their lives.
Graybill has done an outstanding performance--a major triumph for both history and music! Consider this a must-read for music students and professionals! For others, enjoy this writer, like I did, as I read little tidbits like, "Do corpses really roll over within their graves if something disturbing happens in the world of the living? If so, there's no doubt that the corpse of operatic composer Amilcare Ponchielli took a couple of whirls during the 20th century...especially if he heard the "highly successful musical parody in which Amilcare's stirring music is sung to the opening words, "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah..." (pps. 98-99) You're going to enjoy this one!

Layla, You Still Got Me On My Knees, Pattie Boyd

I received as a Christmas gift a personalized autographed copy of "Wonderful Today." This is a very good marketing device for a premium price, but worth it for those who value the author's dedication in their own handwriting.
Beatle George Harrison wrote "Something" for her and it remains one of the most covered Beatles songs ever. Eric Clapton, the guitar hero of the world for over three decades wrote the Derek and the Dominoes 1974 Album "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs," that fast and furious super-hot rock and roll epic about his love for this model and former wife of George Harrison and eventually Eric's-Pattie Boyd. She's the only woman to have two superstars write songs to her, and in her prime, her intoxicating beauty was that of a sexual siren driving men's souls to the rocks in pure passion. Her new book "Wonderful Today" is a biography that seems to want to tell all, and indeed sheds light on this wonderful woman who came from an abused childhood to make it as one of the world's top models. Ms. Boyd begins in a chronological fashion with pictures of family and tales of Kenya with snakes, tigers, and scary natives. Quite the childhood, but then when her parents separate she is forced back to England with an abusive and cruel step-father.
The voice of the book is sweet and innocent, but the sixties flower children go through an innocence of their own and as the drugs they use to free their minds and give them empowerment for hope eventually drive them to pure misery as well. She became the wife of Mr. Harrison at the end of a fairy-tale courtship, but due to the heavy hand of the Beatle's Manager Brian Epstein, was denied a proper wedding, as the public was not to know George was "no longer available" in the heady days of Beatlemania. She and George lived a simple life, in a relatively small house with George off to the studio each day and Pattie embracing the role of wife, lover, cook, and home keeper. It was all she wanted and needed. George on the other hand became intensely involved in meditation, ironically because of Pattie's suggestion, to fill a need for a childhood he never completely experienced, and they all went off to the Yogi Master Maharishi Mahesh in India.
For those who haven't read past books on the Beatles, her book is full of references such as their Los Angeles house on "Blue Jay Way" and Prudence Farrow, Mia's sister, was the "Dear Prudence" who would not leave her house in India with the Maharishi. Sergeant Pilcher was the British police officer who busted John Lennon, George, and many other rock and rollers of the day for drugs including Mick Jagger. "Jennifer Juniper" was a Donovan song for Pattie's sister Jennifer who was also Mick Fleetwood's main squeeze off and on and there are many other tidbits of rock trivia that have their place in history connected to Pattie's life with George.
George eventually became emotionally unattached to her as he began binging on drugs and then meditation trying to find his way through a lost childhood. Eric Clapton then appears writing her passionate letters and begging her to leave George for a life with him. At first, she thinks this is all very nice and flattering, but then Eric goes on a heroin binge because of her refusal to give in and be with him much like a spiteful boy. Eventually George's lack of attention and Eric's determined persistence, get the best of Pattie and she leaves George to follow Eric on tour. Years go by and the addiction to drugs, alcohol, and heroin take their toll on "Slowhand" and he shows no attempt to stay faithful to any one woman. As much as Pattie wants to understand and deal with the issues of his dalliances and drunkenness, she indeed compromises her own principles in doing so, the relationship grinds to an inevitable crash as Eric "keeps on keepin' on," in full persona of what a rock star is all about After Midnite-sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
Pattie was and is only looking for love with someone who can make her laugh, and treat her as an equal. This book is not a kiss and tell epic, and one would love to hear some of the intense times of emotion and vase throwings I'm sure, but one can sense the immense pain she had in finally putting this to words for all to read without destroying her relationships especially with Clapton. Her only mistake was believing in young men that couldn't tie their shoes on their own, and needed to grow up and take their marriage seriously. But now at last she is on her own, enjoying her life without expectations and has accepted her responsibility in enabling these "boys" and being a part of the problem. She still maintains great beauty within and without and is and will always be the mythical lady immortalized much like Helen of Troy in that Pattie launched a million flickers of light for encores at concerts everywhere in the world.
"Layla, you still got me on my knees..."

Full Advantage of the Technology

.NET or Dot NET is a software structure which provides controlled environment for development and running of computer applications. Once the .NET framework is installed in the PC, the software gets updated with the update service of Microsoft. And, after installation of any version of .NET in the computer, it gets updated through the control panel of the computer and hence become the latest version of .NET.
It supports 27 programming languages including C++ and C#. One important application provided by .NET is class library codes which prevent many programming issues and help user with full web developments.
Benefits of.NET Framework
• Dot NET (.NET) supports installation of basic applications like PayPal, Inuit Quick Books, and Microsoft Windows Live One Care.
• In .NET framework, CLR (Common Language Run) defines the execution of program code. It does memory management itself and makes the user free from the task of managing memory.
• The function of.NET Class Library is available to all .NET languages and is regardless of the programming language that a developer uses. It provides development of consistent programming model.
• Web developers using .NET technology can create an integrated information area within his/her computer. They can create high-quality programs with collections of Internet integrated qualities available in today's computer and networks.
• One of the most successful developments of .NET framework is its level of security. The platform provides a number of mechanisms (Web Application Security, Code Access Security, and Role-based Security) for the protection of resources and codes from the unauthorized codes and users.
.NET technology offers lot more advantages to IT professionals. However, with the increasing demand of the web application development and consequent shortage of expert.NET programmers, online business owner prefers outsourcing to offshore.NET development companies.

The Key Benefits of Exact Match Domain

Internet marketers often talk about the need to get a domain that is an exact match for the keywords they are trying to rank for. Some consider it so important that if they can't get an exact match domain they will actually give up on that niche and move on to another. In truth while there are benefits of an exact match domain it is not so important that you can't compete without one. In fact it is debatable if the most widely touted benefit of an exact match domain really provides any kind of benefit at all.
The area where the benefits of a domain are open to debate is when it comes to search engine rankings. There are a lot of people who believe that having an exact match domain will cause the search engines to automatically rank them higher. Others swear it has no relevance at all. The truth is that nobody knows because the search engines keep this secret. The current best guess is that it used to be a relevant factor in the rankings but it no longer is. Regardless there are other ways that having a domain really can be a benefit to your site.
The biggest benefit is that you will have more credibility in your field. This will help to attract more visitors to your site. An interesting thing happens when people do a search for something. When the results come up they will actually look at the domains of the top results. In many cases they will click on the result that has an exact match domain to the term they searched for. The will do this even if it isn't the top result. People will assume that if you have a relevant domain that you have more credibility in the field and they will be more likely to visit your site over a site that the search engines might rank higher but which doesn't have an exact match domain.
The other reason that an exact match domain is so valuable is that it will make it much easier to get your keywords in the anchor text of links to your site. It is a well established key of search engine optimization that in order to rank well you need to have links to your site that use the keyword you are trying to rank for as the anchor text. The only problem is that it is difficult to control what that anchor text is when other people are linking to your site. In most cases when people link to your site they will simply use your domain. If your keywords happen to be in your domain then you will in fact have a link that includes your keywords as anchor text. This is one of the biggest benefits of an exact match domain since it makes it so much easier to get your site to rank well.

Briefing About The Domain Name System

Configuring a BIND DNS server is not a very difficult task but it can pose some problems if the principles of the DNS are not well understood. The BIND comes with almost any Linux distribution and it not, it can be installed easily.
I recommend you to start with a very basic DNS server first and learn how it works. BIND needs a rndc.key which can be found in the etc directory. This is very important file which establish the default communication channel and the authentication key that allows the rnds to communicate with named on the localhost. This is generated with the help of the command rndc-confgen.
The BIND comes also with the main configuration file which tells to the DNS server the main characteristics and where to look further for the zone files. This file is /etc/named.conf. Inside I can define a lots of parameters and mainly what exactly the DNS server will work as. For example I can have only a caching name server, I can have an authority name server or a forwarding name server.
Inside this file I explain to the name server where to look first. For example I must define the root name servers and also the local host. Without these my DNS server will not work properly. Then I begin to define the different file zone for which I want my name server to work with. I must also define the path where all the file zones will be stored. Usually they are stored in /var/named but this can be easily changed.
Next I pass to the configuration of the zone files. This is much to tell about this and there is a true art to have a properly configured zone file for a domain. I want only to specify that there are five major types of records which can be configured in the zone file. The NS records comes from the name server record and establishes which is the name server of the current domain. The A record is the mapping between the domain name and the IP and makes possible to find the domain. As you know computers communicate with IP's and not with names. With the A record they descend at internet layer from the TCP/IP protocol and can find where my domain is. Another record is the MX which establishes the mail server, and tells the location of the mail server if the domain has one. Another setting is the CNAME which is in fact an alias. With that one I can add different names to my domain and even subdomains. And finally but not lastly the PTR record is the pointer record. This is the reverse addressing and makes possible the translation from an IP to a domain. I very crucial. There is another record called SOA records and comes from the Start Of Authority. This is by far the most important record establishing the authority of the domain. It comprises serial numbers, intervals of checks and of renewal, expiration period and the minimum time that DNS should renew the information.

I Consider When Buying a Domain

A domain name (website name for the less tech savvy) is easily one of the most important aspects of your website. We constantly see names that make us want to cringe and wonder what they were thinking; but what makes a "good" domain? There's a few key factors you want to consider when your picking the domain name for your internet business.
The length is where people make the biggest mistake. Just because your name can be up to 63 characters does not mean that it should be anywhere near that. We typically recommend domains be no more then 20 characters if possible. This is extremely important especially if you are doing any kind of marketing. The last thing you want to happen is your customers give up after mistyping it too many times and move on to the next person they can find.
Before registering your domain ask yourself these questions:
Is the name easy to spell?
Is it memorable?
Are other variations taken? (.com is king, but you may have competition using the.net/org/info)
Could the name be mistyped easily? (Please avoid intentional mis-types. While it may be cute to spell cupcakes with K's, it can make finding the website a nightmare for your customers)
Will the name appeal to my target audience?

Simple Tips for Registering a Domain for Your Company

Many companies and businesses have already discovered the importance of having a presence on the Internet. People get online to find everything from details for a research paper to what restaurant to eat dinner it to the best doctor in town. You can get your company online by simply registering a domain with a few simple tips.
The first step to getting your company online is to select a reliable company that will help you with the process. You can't possibly be expected to know everything about computers and the Internet when you own a small fish store or work for a company that sells skin care products. However, just because you don't know what you're doing on the Internet doesn't mean you can't get your company up on the Internet quickly and easily. You just need a little help from some online professionals who can give you the best advice and guide you in the right direction.
Once you've selected the company you want to work with in registering, hosting and maybe even creating your company's website, you'll be tasked with selecting a domain name for that website. There are a few simple tips you should consider when you start thinking about the name you want linked to your website. The company you are working with may be able to also help you select the most appropriate name, but it helps to come with some of your own understanding and ideas.
The most important thing to remember when choosing domain names is that you want it to be short and simple. You don't want the person trying to look up your company to have to remember a long, complicated name. If the name is too hard to remember, the viewers may not visit the site as much. For example, if someone is driving down the road and sees an advertisement for your website - will they remember the name and be able to type it in to their browser when they get home? Or will they not even have enough time to read the whole domain name while they're speeding passed it on the road?
If your company's name is easy to remember and simple to type into the browser, you will probably have more people visiting your website simply because you will have more people who can even remember the name of your website. Also remember to consider the spelling when you are registering a domain. If you are using words or names that might be difficult to spell, visitors to your site might find it more difficult to visit the site at all. You don't want people being directed to the wrong site or getting frustrated and giving up all together simply because they can't spell the name you chose to direct them to your company.

Unique But Functional Domain Names for Your Company

Choosing a domain name for your company is the first step toward presenting the image of your company to viewers. You want the people visiting your site to know the image of your company while also being about to remember and revisit the site easily. It's important to choose a unique name that is memorable while also being a name that is functional for the general public and visitors.
The first thing to remember when you are deciding on a name for your site is that you want other people to be able to remember it and access it easily. Having a domain name that is hard for people to remember could also make it hard for them to find your website. What if they see a billboard for your company on the side of the road and want to remember to visit it later. They probably won't write down the name for your website while they're driving down the road, so you want them to be able to remember it when they get home. However, you also want it to be unique to your company.
Sometimes the simplest names or addresses are the hardest to remember because they don't stand out in a person's mind. You remember the name you read that made you laugh because it actually made you laugh. You probably also remember names that you found interesting or unique while just a simple company name could be hard to remember. When you are registering a domain, you want to remember that people could be reading the name while away from a computer and will need to remember it when they get home or back to the office and are in a position where they can sit down and visit your website.
It is also important to keep in mind, however, while choosing a unique name that the name needs to be functional as well. Double and triple check the spelling of your domain name to be sure it is not something that could be confused for something else - and cause problems when people associating that other thing with your company. Many words can look different when typed into a web address because there are no longer spaces between the words in URL. You don't just need to make sure it couldn't be mistaken for something else when you're registering it though. You should also make sure the spelling is easy for someone who wants to visit your site.

Boost Business With the Right Domain Name

Small, owner-operated establishments help keep local economies healthy. As a customer or client, it is usually easy to see the difference that the owner's presence makes. Fortunately, widespread internet use and improved service provision have translated into more opportunity for small businesses. Creating an online presence and a functional website leads to more sales, but it is essential you have a domain name that aligns with your long-term goals and objectives.
The process of registering a domain is quite straightforward, especially when compared to the critical decision about which words to use in it. Remember that the relationship should be clear - pick something that corresponds with the purpose or title of your business. A clever, multiword expression will only work if there is no confusion about the division of the words. Putting dashes may clarify expressions in some situations, but it could also generate confusion about how the address should be read aloud. Therefore, in general, shorter is much better.
One useful strategy is to brainstorm a list of keywords. If you are having trouble narrowing down your choices, reach out to friends. Ask them which words they generally associate with your business and why. Discuss with a partner or get a piece of scrap paper and try different connections. Alternatively, if you have a small, regular group of customers and clients, you could create an online poll and get their opinions on the matter. Be wary, however, of waiting too long. Until you fill out the forms for a specific domain name, it can be snapped up by someone else.
Once you feel comfortable with your soon-to-be address in the virtual world, it is time to go about registering a domain. Some of the most basic packages available give you rights to the site, period. Unless you are a website-building whiz, you probably want to invest in a package that comes with technical support and software to get your site off the ground. Even if you have very limited experience, templates make it easy to personalize the site so that it fits your business. Also, as you evaluate availability, look at privacy options. On the one hand, you want to generate traffic. Yet at the same time, spammers can cause lots of unnecessary headaches so private registration makes the most sense for almost everyone.

Choosing a Domain Name That Is Hard to Forget

How do non-words enter our lexicon without us even bothering to notice? It has happened across the span of history, but has gained even more notoriety in recent years as the Internet vocabulary has come to shape the way that we communicate. Stop to think about the different phrases made popular by pop and movie stars and you may start to realize that there is something of a science to the process. When choosing a domain name for yourself, the process should be similar. Begin with something catchy and work your way to a point at which you can't get that name out of your head.
Many catchy tunes have emerged from commercials, sampled and reused years later, tapping into our collective subconscious in a way that is hard to deny. This is the ultimate goal for anyone that is eager to attract a substantial audience to their website. Take a minute to contemplate the domain names that are most memorable to you. Search engines and video posting sites as well as social networking venues often have utterly simple words that have been re-contextualized to mean exactly what they do. Take this as a clue to help guide you to create something that is capable of doing the same.
As a rule of thumb, if you can sing it, rhyme with it, or make new words with it, then you've probably struck gold with your domain name. The name itself should be catchy and virtually irreplaceable. As long as other people can remember it, than it doesn't necessarily matter that they know where it will lead them. In many cases, that is for the costumer to find out later on. For your purposes, getting the name to stick in peoples' minds is the principle goal at stake.
Domain registry is only the first step in a long string of steps that you'll have to follow through with in order to establish an informative and reliable website. Depending on the type of information, good, or service you're planning on providing, the subsequent hosting requirements and maintenance will have to be decided by whoever you have designated to run your site. Their knowledge of the server will determine how effective a job they are able to do for your website. Remember that having an unforgettable name can also work to your disadvantage should you provide an unreliable or otherwise untrustworthy service.

Good Websites and Domains

If you're an interior decorator, then you probably know all kinds of great things about how to make the inside of any building look beautiful, but you may know very little about developing a strong web presence for yourself. These days, many companies are spending less on their decorating budgets, undergoing renovations less frequently, and using simple corporate plans on a much more frequent basis. To small designer companies and individuals, that means it's harder than ever to get contracted for well-paying jobs, which is why it's so important for you to have a strong presence online. Companies want to hire designers who have a lot of experience and who have done a good job in the past, and the easiest way for them to locate those designers is online. The most important thing you can do to get your name out there is develop a website that explains who you are and highlights previous work you've done. To make sure people actually visit your website, however, you'll first have to come up with some good domain names.
Domains are the web address that people type into their browser when they visit any website. They are literally the address that your website is listed at, and just like some locations are more valuable than others in the real estate world, some web addresses are much more valuable than others in the online world. To attract new clients to your website and get better exposure, you've got to come up with good domain names. As a designer, when you think of the web address you're going to use, you should think about what kind of audience you're trying to reach. Most likely, you'll simply want to use a web address that corresponds with your decorating company's name, but that's not always the case. In some rare cases, someone may have already registered the exact same web address as the name of your company. If that happens, you can try to purchase the web address back from that person, but it will most likely cost you a lot more than simply choosing a different domain name would. Instead of paying a higher fee for that web address, you can look into registering the same address with a different extension. For example, if.com is already taken, other extensions such as.net,.biz,.org,.edu etc. may still be available. Alternatively, if your company's name is difficult to remember, then try to pick a web address that is simpler but related to design so it will drive potential clients to your website.
